The dendrites are the shorts ~processes~ of the neuron which carry ~nerve~ impulses toward the body of the neuron from the |synapse|. The dendrites are distinguished from the |axons|, which carry ~nerve~ impulses away from the body of the neuron. The dendrite terminals accept the ~nerve~ impulses as they pass through synaptic connections from the |axon| of another neuron.
